Summer in the Square 2010

On Saturday, May 15th, Battersea Square was transformed: stalls, jugglers, dance, music, laughter, cakes and, of course, jerk chicken! All this and sunshine too! Summer in the Square was the second sparkling event put on by the Friends of Battersea Square. FOBS are bringing together schools, businesses, residents and neighbours to promote the square as an attractive and vibrant centre.

Nigella Lawson with Ben Thomas

On Saturday, proceedings began with an exquisite rendering of Over the Rainbow by the Gentlemen of St. John's. Summer in the Square was officially opened by celebrity cook, Nigella Lawson (seen above with Friends of Battersea Square chairman Ben Thomas).

Local businesses were out in full with stalls offering delicious bites: Lebanese, French, Mediterranean, Jamaican. On stage were the Apollo String Duo, Thomas's Jazz Band, the ever popular, Salesian Rappers, and the Royal Academy of Dance, whose dancers also gave some impromptu lessons to eager youngsters (below).
